How to clean aluminum cookware at home?

Aluminum cookware is very popular with many housewives. It is a pleasure to cook in it, however, such dishes are very whimsical to care for. Our article will tell you about the features of cleaning aluminum dishes at home.

Cleaning features

Everyone knows that aluminum is a very delicate, malleable metal. When cleaning dishes made of this metal, one should take into account its properties, this is the only way you can preserve its original splendor and beauty:

  • Do not start washing the pan or pot until it has cooled down completely. The fact is that a heated metal can deform under the influence of water, and, consequently, change the shape of the product.
  • When cleaning, use a soft sponge and a wooden spatula to avoid scratching the product.
  • When choosing a detergent, give preference to products suitable for glass and ceramics.
  • Do not use abrasive or alkaline cleaners as they can easily damage the surface of the cookware. The resulting cracks can easily get dirt and will be difficult to clean.
  • Pre-soak the dishes in soapy water for a few minutes. After that, you can easily wash off uncomplicated dirt.
  • For stubborn dirt, use the boil method. To do this, pick up a large bowl, place an aluminum pan or other utensil in it and boil the product, adding regular baking soda.
  • To prevent streaking, wipe everything dry with a soft cloth after washing.

Bringing back the shine

Aluminum often loses its luster with use. However, it is possible to return the dishes to their original appearance at home, you just need to follow the following guidelines:

  • If your frying pan has turned black, then kefir, cucumber pickle or yogurt will help get rid of this blackness. Apply these products with a soft sponge to the surface and let sit for two hours. For stubborn dirt, pour the liquid to the bottom and leave for four hours. After that, clean the pan in the usual way and dry it.
  • Vinegar can also help restore the shine to your pot or skillet. Soak a cloth in vinegar and rub the surface of the product with it. Rinse it in cool water and pat dry with a tissue.
  • The next way to restore the original appearance to the bottom of the dishes is to boil with onions. Fill a saucepan with water, wait for it to boil and then lower one onion inside. Continue boiling for another ten minutes. After the dishes have cooled down, wash them under running water and dry them.
  • Curiously, you can restore the shine of aluminum with the help of ordinary apples. Grate the apples and apply the resulting gruel to the surface of the pan.

The acid in apples will cleanse it of impurities.

Removing greasy stains

Greasy traces remain on any frying pan during the cooking process. To clean aluminum dishes from greasy stains use the following methods:

  • If the pan is greasy on the outside, find a larger basin and pour a soapy solution of warm water into it. Place the dirty dishes inside and leave for one hour. After a while, wash the pan with a soft sponge and dry with a rag.
  • If the aluminum pan becomes greasy on the inside, pour water into it and add citric acid and vinegar in equal proportions. Boil the contents for half an hour. Then rinse the pan and wipe dry.
  • To clean your cutlery, select a suitable container and place your spoons, forks and knives in it. Boil them in a solution of lemon and vinegar for a quarter of an hour. Then rinse them with water and dry them on a towel.

We get rid of carbon deposits, scale and plaque

Sometimes it happens that carbon deposits form on the dishes during the cooking process. You can clean the surface from carbon deposits in the following ways:

  • Wait until the dishes have cooled completely, otherwise it may deform under the influence of water.
  • If carbon deposits have not yet absorbed into the surface, try cleaning it with a soapy solution. To do this, rub a piece of laundry soap with a grater and put the shavings in warm water. Let the dishes sit for a while. Then wipe it with a soft sponge and dry it dry.
  • Stubborn stains are removed with a mixture of laundry soap, silicate glue and baking soda.
  • If it is necessary to remove carbon deposits from the outer surface of the dishes, then boil them in a larger container.

Scale and plaque often appear on the dishes, this is due to the peculiarities of the metal:

  • To remove them without damaging the product, do not rub the surface with a stiff brush.
  • If the scale is strong, then the method of boiling with soapy water, silicate glue and soda will help to cope with it. Boil the dishes for at least half an hour.
  • If the scale on the pan is light, ammonia can help. Wipe the surface of the product with it, wash with soapy water and rinse with plenty of water.
  • In the fight against scale, table vinegar will also help. Boil aluminum kitchen utensils with it for half an hour.

Care

So that you do not have to use enhanced measures to clean aluminum dishes from various contaminants, try to initially follow some rules for caring for such dishes:

  • Before using aluminum cookware, boil it in salt water. Thanks to the salt, it will become harder and less scale and fumes will form on it.
  • To make the dishes shine, wash them in a soapy solution with the addition of ammonia.
  • The shine of aluminum dishes will last for a long time if you periodically wash them with tooth powder. To do this, you must first dissolve it in a small amount of liquid and apply to the surface with a soft sponge.
  • It is also recommended not to cook food in aluminum pans without adding salt.
