How to clean a frying pan from soot and fat at home: a review of store and folk remedies for different materials and coatings

More often than not other kitchen utensils, a frying pan requires thorough cleaning. Just once they overlooked it - and it becomes covered with a layer of burnt fat. And it's not only about cleanliness, but also about health risks. Carbon deposits contain carcinogens that decompose when heated and enter the body. At the same time, we breathe in poisonous vapors. All this raises the risk of cancerous tumors. How to quickly and easily remove carbon and grease from a frying pan?

Frying pans are diverse. They are different in functionality, diameter, thickness and height of the walls. But the choice of means and methods of cleaning the product is directly related to the characteristics of the materials from which the dishes are made. Most pans are made from:

  • cast iron;
  • aluminum;
  • of stainless steel.

Modern pans are easy to clean, do not require a lot of oil, and the food does not burn thanks to the high-tech coating:

  • teflon;
  • ceramic;
  • enameled;
  • marble.

Popular household chemicals

Modern frying pans will delight you with cleanliness for a long time if you immediately put them in order after each use. There are effective cleaning agents for this. Here are the popular brands:

  • Fairy;
  • "AOS";
  • Gala;
  • Silith.

A few drops are enough to wash the inside out of the non-stick frying pan, even of old grease. When working with store-bought household chemicals, there are four important rules:

  • rinse thoroughly- many cleaning products are difficult to rinse off;
  • work with gloves- they will protect the skin of the hands from allergic reactions;
  • provide air flow- you need to open the window or turn on the hood;
  • put on a respirator- especially if you use "nuclear" cleaning agents.

How to quickly empty a pan: 2 "nuclear" means

Sometimes the carbon deposits on the dishes are so strong that ordinary detergents are simply powerless. Then the hostesses turn to aggressive means for help. Some of them are not even originally designed for cookware. The technology is unsafe and requires special care. Basically, two preparations are used to remove the stubborn layer of fat from the pan.

  1. Grease remover "Shumanit". The product is sold in the form of a cream, gel and liquid. Acts quickly and dissolves even burnt and perennial grease on surfaces. The peculiarity is that the drug works literally in minutes. But some housewives, in order to achieve impeccable cleanliness, leave the product longer. But here it is important to take into account that Shumanit is toxic. Therefore, it is not suitable for permanent use and all manipulations must be carried out with gloves and a protective mask.
  2. Sewer pipe cleaner... The most aggressive, but effective, are chemical solutions for cleaning sewer pipes. The funds should be stored in a place protected from children. Any, even the oldest and thickest layer of carbon will come off if you place the pan in a solution consisting of half a liter of such a product and five liters of water. Hold until you see that the dirt has completely come off. Prerequisite: pour the reagent into the water, but not vice versa, otherwise you will not avoid an active chemical reaction.

Preventing carbon deposits: preventive care

To make your pans last longer and prevent the build-up of old fat build-up on the coating, follow the recommendations for care and use. For different pans - their own tips.

  • Cast iron. It is best to warm it up well before cooking. So it will burn less. It will become easier to wash the dishes, so there will be less carbon deposits.
  • Aluminum. In order not to have to look for a way to clean the old fat from the aluminum pan, use the correct detergent compositions during daily use. Soda with warm water and a soft sponge work best in this case. Abrasives are prohibited.
  • Stainless. Salt or baking soda can help you easily clean the bottom of the stainless pan of scale and burnt food. Spread half a glass of this or that substance over the bottom, slightly wet it, leave for two to three hours. Stainless steel products are also easily cleaned by activated carbon. Crush ten tablets, mix with a few drops of water, treat problem areas, leave for half an hour. Rinse off any residue and brush lightly.

Be careful with any non-stick coating. Even one scratch is dangerous. Changing the tempera is also harmful: hot dishes cannot be washed immediately. Do not use aggressive cleaning agents or metal scrapers. You can boil the product for half an hour in the following solution: add 200 ml of detergent and three tablespoons of soda to 500 ml of water. Use wooden or silicone spatulas when cooking. Wipe the pan dry after washing.

Cast iron pans

The food prepared in them turns out to be especially aromatic and tasty. Therefore, do not rush to throw away the inherited dishes. It serves for a long time, is notable for its practicality, in many cases it is irreplaceable. A big minus - the pans are heavy, quickly become covered with old grease and soot, especially on the outside. You can clean a cast-iron pan from perennial carbon deposits both by mechanical action and with the help of folk remedies.

Removing plaque from the outside ...

Outside, it is better to clean cast-iron dishes by mechanical means, without chemicals. The occupation is laborious, so let a man do it. There are seven ways.

  1. Metal scraper. If the dishes are old and worn out, you will have to make a lot of effort. It is better to pre-calcine it at high temperatures.
  2. Open fire. Before using the scraper, hold the pan over an open flame on a gas burner or place in an oven heated to 250 ° C. A big minus is the smell of burning and fumes. Open a window wide open or do it outdoors. For example, over a fire in a garden area. Remove the wooden handles beforehand or protect them from flame.
  3. Blowtorch. A man, having this tool, can easily clean even old dirt, simply by directing the flame to the surface for five minutes. You need to do this on the street, in the country, in the garage.
  4. Sander. The nozzle should be end flap. Carry out cleaning on the street, protecting yourself with a respirator, goggles, overalls.
  5. Electric drill. You need a nozzle, at the end of which a piece of sandpaper is attached. With some effort, you can peel off the thickest layer of burnt fat, and then sand the pan to a shine with sandpaper.
  6. Sandblast. There is such an installation at a car repair station. Cleans with sand and compressed air. Auto mechanic quickly clean kitchen utensils from dirt and rust. The disadvantage is that the integrity of the cast iron can be violated.
  7. Sand. To remove carbon deposits, fill the pan to the top with sand and keep it on low heat for at least three hours. Be sure to ventilate the room. If necessary, increase the processing time. Then mechanically in any convenient way remove the carbon residues and rinse well with water.

During the firing process, pieces of old carbon will fall off in pieces. It is recommended to periodically use a knife to pick out the treated layer. This will speed up the process.

... and inside

From the old and proven methods, you can recall recipes that use hydrogen peroxide, vinegar, laundry soap, salt, soda, lemon, clerical or silicate glue.

Silicate glue

  1. Pour 10 liters of water into a wide metal container, for example, into a basin or a tank for boiling linen.
  2. Grate one bar of 72% laundry soap on a coarse grater or grind in any convenient way.
  3. Add 200 g of silicate glue and 0.5 kg of baking soda, stir and dissolve.
  4. Submerge the dishes completely in the container.
  5. Open a window or window.
  6. Boil and keep on low heat until the dirty layer softens. It will take from half an hour to five hours.
  7. Cool, remove, rinse thoroughly under running water.
  8. Use a wire brush if necessary.
  9. If the dirt remains - treat with "Shumanit" for half an hour, rinse well.

Soda ash

  1. Pour on the bottom, distribute the salt evenly, pour half a glass of acetic acid.
  2. Leave for half an hour.
  3. Add five tablespoons of soda ash.
  4. Turn on the fire.
  5. Heat for ten minutes.
  6. Rinse thoroughly under running fresh water.

Hydrogen peroxide

  1. Mix baking soda and hydrogen peroxide to make a gruel.
  2. Heat the dishes.
  3. Brush with the prepared mixture for ten minutes.
  4. Rinse thoroughly.
  5. If necessary, use a brush.
  6. If the result is unsatisfactory, repeat the procedure.

Vinegar and citric acid

  1. Pour two liters of water into a wide container.
  2. Dissolve half a glass of lemon and 200 g of vinegar.
  3. Bring the solution to a boil.
  4. Dip the pan completely.
  5. Keep on fire for 20 minutes.
  6. Remove, cool, pre-clean with a brush.
  7. Place again in the solution, adding four teaspoons of baking soda.
  8. Keep on low heat for about 15 minutes.
  9. Cool, remove, clean the surface with a metal brush.
  10. If necessary, repeat the procedure until completely shiny.

Laundry soap

  1. Grate half of the bar.
  2. Place on the bottom of the pan.

  2. Add a handful of powder and a few tablespoons of oil.
  3. Place a frying pan in the basin.
  4. Bring to a boil, wait half an hour.
  5. Rinse thoroughly with water.
  6. It is better to use powder for hand washing to avoid excessive foaming.

With ammonia and borax

  1. Mix a glass of water, 10 g of borax and two drops of ammonia.
  2. Pour into the bottom of the pan.
  3. Wait half an hour, rinse with water.

Do not wash cast iron pans in dishwashers. This will cause rust to form and wash away the oil layer inside, causing the food to burn.

Removing rust

Sometimes the dishes remain rusty after the carbon deposits have been removed. What to do in this case? Remember that the problem of rust can be solved only after the fat deposits have been completely removed. To get rid of rust in a cast iron skillet, follow this 12-step procedure.

  1. Mix table vinegar with water in a 1: 8 ratio.
  2. Pour the solution into a wide and deep container.
  3. Immerse the utensils in a container with vinegar solution and leave for half an hour.
  4. Preheat oven to 130 ° C.
  5. Remove the pan from the container, remove the rust residues, wash with hot water and detergent, dry.
  6. Place in the oven upside down.
  7. Leave on for 30 minutes.
  8. Raise temperature to 230 ° C and hold for about an hour.
  9. Turn off the oven and remove the pan.
  10. Once the pan is cool, wipe the inside and outside with a paper towel dipped in vegetable oil.
  11. Change the napkins frequently to remove excess grease and achieve the desired shine.
  12. The last step is to place it in a cooling oven, periodically taking it out and wiping it again until the oven cools down.

Restoring the protective layer

So that the food does not burn and the pan is washed well, you should warm it up with ordinary salt. To do this, you need to take the following six steps.

  1. Spread the salt evenly over the bottom.
  2. Warm up for half an hour.
  3. All this time, stir the salt so that the bottom is touched.
  4. Pour the salt into a metal container, and after cooling down into the trash can.
  5. Cool the pan and rinse.
  6. Ignite well again.

Aluminum pans

They are inexpensive, this is their only plus. Warm up quickly and unevenly, food burns in them, especially oil. The metal releases compounds harmful to the body. It is difficult to clean, you cannot use products containing acids and alkalis, as well as metal scrapers.

Removing plaque from the outside ...

For complete cleansing, use boiling or heating with sand. If you need to clean only the sides and bottom from the outside, choose the following recipes.

With silicate glue

  1. Mix silicate glue (half a glass), laundry soap (a bar) and soda ash (half a glass).
  2. Dissolve in 10 liters of water.
  3. Boil the pan in a wide-bottomed pan until completely clean.
  4. After rinsing, rub with a soft cloth.

With salt

  1. Prepare a solution: for 10 liters of water, 300 g of salt.
  2. Dip the dishes completely in the solution.
  3. Boil for at least two hours.

With sand

  1. Fill the dishes with them to the top.
  2. Heat up, leave for two hours.
  3. Remove residues with a knife or tap.
  4. Rinse thoroughly with water and detergent.

... and inside

Aluminum kitchenware was one of the earliest to be used. During this time, a lot of effective and inexpensive cleaning methods have been invented. Try the following six.

  1. Baking soda. Process the dishes with a soft sponge or boil with soda solution for half an hour.
  2. Apple. If the inside is not very dirty, clean with half an apple.
  3. Dentifrice. It will perfectly clean the aluminum coating inside. And if you heat the product, treat it with powder and leave it overnight, then in the morning, after washing and rinsing, the dishes will shine like new.
  4. Onion. Several onions, peeled and cut in half, should be put on the bottom, covered with water, and boiled for two hours over low heat.
  5. Table vinegar. It will remove dark spots. Just treat contamination with this product.
  6. Detergent and water. The following trick will help to remove the smell of burning and vinegar from the pan: boil water in the pan and wash the dishes with detergent.

Daily careful care and adherence to simple rules will help keep your aluminum assistant in perfect cleanliness. Take on three more recommendations.

  1. Sandpaper. Do not use sandpaper to clean aluminum utensils. You will ruin her appearance and harm her health. During processing, the metal is oxidized. Oxide, entering the body, destroys bone tissue.
  2. Washing powder... Do not use products containing alkalis, acids and chlorine. For example, washing powder. They will leave dark spots that will ruin the look.
  3. Dishwasher. Do not wash often in the dishwasher, the pan will become dull and dark.

Leave the lather in an aluminum pan overnight to prevent oxidation from entering food. In the morning, rinse off the foam with hot water and dry the product. This forms a protective film on the product.

Stainless steel pans

Such metal keeps heat for a long time, therefore it is better to use it for cooking stews. Of the advantages - stainless steel pans do not emit harmful substances, therefore they are safe, completely retain the aroma and taste of products, do not become rusty, resistant to mechanical damage. But food often burns. Among other disadvantages - during operation, ugly stains are formed that cannot be washed with products with hard abrasive particles. Stainless steel is the most capricious to care for, it does not tolerate detergents in the form of powder and hard sponges. Clean such dishes in the following ways.

Rock salt

  1. Spread the salt evenly over the bottom.
  2. Warm up for 15 minutes.
  3. Let stand for a couple of hours.
  4. Pour in salt.
  5. Rinse with gel.
  6. Rinse with clean running water.

Baking soda or soda ash

  1. Wet the inside and outside with hot water.
  2. Cover with plenty of baking soda.
  3. Rub especially dirty areas with a porous sponge.
  4. Leave for half an hour.
  5. Wash off with hot water, rinse with cold.
  6. The procedure can be repeated.

Vinegar and citric acid

  1. Pour two cups of vinegar into a skillet, heat slightly.
  2. Open a window or turn on the hood.
  3. Empty container of citric acid.
  4. Bring to a boil, turn off heat.
  5. Keep it covered for 30 minutes.
  6. Clean off burnt residues with a soft sponge.
  7. Rinse thoroughly.

Teflon coated

Teflon coating is applied to aluminum and stainless steel pans. The main advantages are resistance to high temperatures and aggressive environments during cleaning. An effective way to clean such a pan is in the dishwasher. If there is no special equipment in the house, then a simple method of boiling with a detergent will help to clean the Teflon pan from perennial carbon deposits. You need to act in six steps.

  1. Pour water into the pan.
  2. Add a drop of detergent or a little soda ash.
  3. Bring to a boil, turn off heat and wait about an hour.
  4. Pour water, remove dirt with a soft microfiber cloth.
  5. Boil again with clean water.
  6. Pour water, wipe the dishes dry with a soft kitchen napkin.

You can clean the inside of a non-stick frying pan to remove old fat from the inside in the same way, but replace the detergent with washing powder, office glue or baking soda. And to clean a Teflon pan, including a pancake pan from perennial carbon deposits, not only inside, but also outside, there are two more simple ways.

Boiling in Coca-Cola

  1. Pour Coca-Cola into a large metal bowl.
  2. Dip the pan into the drink.
  3. Put the container on fire and bring to a boil.
  4. Boil until the dishes are clean.

Boiling with soda ash

  1. Prepare a solution of three liters of water, 50 ml of soda ash and a glass of any detergent.
  2. Pour the solution into a wide-bottomed container.
  3. Place a frying pan in a container.
  4. Continue boiling for no more than half an hour.
  5. Then remove the dishes, rinse thoroughly, wipe with a soft cloth.

Marble coated

Marble pans have become popular. Made of lightweight aluminum, marble chips are added to the non-stick coating for durability. If carbon deposits form, the marble products are cleaned like any other non-stick coating.

In order for the surface to remain intact for a long time, before the first use it should be thoroughly washed, dried, treated with vegetable oil. No need to glow.

Such pans last much longer than Teflon or ceramic pans, but subject to four simple rules of operation.

  1. We do not abuse the dishwasher. It is allowed to wash in the device, but it is better not to frequent and do it manually.
  2. We use soda. To remove burnt food, pour a little water with baking soda, wait ten minutes, rinse off the rest with water using a soft sponge.
  3. We protect from temperature extremes. It is better to wash immediately after use, but allow to cool, protecting from temperature surges.
  4. We do not scratch. When cleaning, use a soft sponge or microfiber cloth.

Ceramic coated

The ceramic coating is applied to aluminum or cast iron products. Differs in high strength and safety. It warms up evenly, cools down for a long time. The big minus is that it lasts for a relatively short time. Within a few months, the coating begins to deteriorate and loses its non-stick properties. To extend the service life, before the first use, the product is recommended to be washed, dried, lightly rubbed with vegetable oil, preferably olive oil. And after the first use of the ceramic pan, rinse it with salt solution and dry thoroughly with a kitchen napkin. Carry out the subsequent cleaning with a soft cloth. Can be cleaned by any means. But he is afraid of temperature changes, so first you need to give the pan the opportunity to cool down.

How can you clean a burnt ceramic frying pan? Try to just soak for a start. If you feel that simple soaking won't help, then put the dishes on the fire, adding water and a little gel to steam out the leftover food. Then it will be easy to remove them. Take on five more ways.

  1. Alcohol. Old stains can be easily removed with regular rubbing alcohol. Moisten a cotton swab with it, wipe the surface. Repeat the procedure several times if necessary.
  2. Oven cleaner. If carbon deposits spoil the appearance, feel free to use an oven cleaner that should not contain citric acid and bleach. Process the dishes outside, leave for a while. Then remove the dirt with a melamine sponge, which should never be used to clean the interior.
  3. Baking soda. Mix it with water until a slurry forms, gently wipe the surface.
  4. Mustard. By adding water to the powder, make a gruel that will do a great job with the burnt fat inside and out.
  5. Borax and ammonia. For 200 ml of water, add a few tablespoons of borax, three drops of ammonia. Pour the solution into the pan, leave for an hour. Rinse with a soft cloth, rinse with clean water.

Enamelled

It has entered the market again and is regaining its former popularity. But now with improved non-stick performance. Minus one - the coating breaks off easily upon impact. The rest is just pluses: the products in such pans do not oxidize, therefore they are safe for health. The dishes are easy to clean, a thick layer of enamel protects from scratches. The enamel heats up for a long time, gives off heat for a long time. Basically, it is used to cover cast iron products. It is better to use such a dish for stewing. Cleaning products - citric acid, soda, vinegar.

There are many ways to clean the pan at home. They are mostly cheap and easy to implement. But it is better if you keep the dishes clean on a daily basis and deal with residual grease and carbon deposits immediately after use. This will help keep your family members healthy and your frying pan healthy.
