How to clean gold at home to make it shine?

Gold items are always in fashion and in price. But if earlier only very wealthy people could afford such jewelry, now they are in every family. Gold itself is a very soft metal, so in order to add hardness to gold, alloys are made to which copper, silver and other metals are added. Therefore, you need to know how to clean gold at home to make it shine. This is what this article is about.

Reasons for the dullness of gold

Thanks to these additives, the gold becomes harder, but at the same time, stains appear on it after a while. There are other reasons why gold loses its original luster and becomes dull. These include:

  • an environment that negatively affects not only a person, but also jewelry;
  • jewelry is in contact with our skin, which means - with sebum, which is inevitable when the sebaceous glands work, especially in summer;
  • the decorative cosmetics and creams used by most women also contaminate gold jewelry.

The question arises of how to clean gold at home so that it shines and pleases us further with its beautiful appearance. First of all, you need to properly look after gold, then the question of how you can launder the gold will not arise so often before you.

Gold care rules:

  • Gold is negatively affected by alkalis and acids, which are found in all washing powders. This noble metal also does not like the solvents that are part of the nail polish remover. Therefore, if you remove the nail polish, it is better to remove the gold rings too, otherwise they may darken.

Important! Some cosmetics contain compounds of mercury, chlorine or sulfur, which your gold jewelry also doesn't like. Try to limit the contact of gold items with these substances as much as possible.

  • When working with paints and abrasive substances, be sure to remove gold items from yourself.
  • You should not wear your favorite jewelry when going to the bathhouse, solarium or sauna.
  • It is not recommended to store gold jewelry in a cardboard box. Cardboard contains sulfur in its composition, as a result - over time, the product will darken.
  • Clean your gold jewelry periodically. The best option is to clean the gold every 3-4 months. But earrings are recommended to be cleaned more often, as they are in direct contact with cosmetics and hair care products.
