How to wash a membrane jacket in a washing machine: tools, advice

The membrane fabric has a high water and dirt repellent effect and perfectly retains heat.

Clothes made from this fabric are lightweight, warm and very practical. How does the membrane have such properties?

The fabric retains heat due to the unique texture of the material; if you look through a magnifying glass, you can see small cells that, when the temperature rises, release warm air, but do not let cold air through. It turns out a kind of microclimate for maintaining a comfortable temperature of a person. The top of the membrane is covered with an invisible film and treated with a special water-repellent agent. All this allows the fabric to stay dry from the inside.

Subtleties when washing the membrane

It is not surprising that products made from such fabric require special care.

If the dirt is rather heavy, the dirt has not yet dried, let it dry and clean with a soft sponge.

Now you can start washing directly, you cannot wash it, it will clog all the "pores" and the fabric will lose its wonderful properties.

In addition to the usual powder, when washing the membrane fabric, do not use conditioner, bleach, chlorine-containing substances and other aggressive agents.

Therefore, we use only the special detergent for washing membrane clothes it is usually liquid.

The instructions for the product indicate that you can use it in, but in order to preserve the product for a long time, we recommend washing it by hand.

So, we take the right amount of funds and follow the instructions. Remember to wear gloves.

Pour water, not exceeding 40 degrees, in a small amount into the basin, pour the membrane washing agent there, mix and immerse our product in the solution. We let the fabrics get wet and start washing.

In no case three, we erase only with wrinkling movements.

After that, rinse thoroughly in cold water (more than three times), and without squeezing, hang it out over the bathroom.

Preferably on a flat surface, carefully straightening all the folds. The room should be fresh and cool, the sun's rays should not be allowed to hit the clothes. Do not dry on radiators or other heating devices.

After each wash, impregnation is necessarily applied to the membrane. When the product is dry, apply a special spray to a clean and dry cloth. Then, without rinsing, let it soak in and after two or three hours we boldly exploit it.

This procedure is necessary because the old impregnation is washed off during washing.

If the fabric is not treated again, it will not protect you as effectively as it did before washing. This product can be purchased at any specialized store or online. Some suppliers also sell impregnation on tap. This is convenient if the budget is limited, but it is more economical, of course, to buy a whole bottle.

Laundry or baby soap

In addition to special detergents for washing membrane clothes, you can use ordinary laundry or baby soap. We act according to the following algorithm:

  • dissolve soap in water;
  • immerse clothing in soapy water;
  • wipe with a soft sponge in dirty places, without pressure;
  • rinse and let the water drain over the bathtub, without spinning.

Washing the membrane in the automatic machine

Most of the membrane products cannot be machine washed, but there are thick clothes and this type of care is possible.

This information is reflected on the tag, study it carefully. If you decide to machine wash, consider such points as:

  • wash only at;
  • without spinning and rinsing:
  • without detergents.

In case of heavy dirt, the washing machine may not be able to cope and the product will need to be washed again by hand.

What detergents for washing membrane clothes can be bought

Here are several manufacturers of membrane care products:

In addition, it can be used for polyester fabrics.

The price is significantly lower than that of other products.

With a good rinse, the manufacturer guarantees the absence of soap stains on the clothes.

Care and wear of membrane garments

There are some more recommendations for the care of membrane products:

  • clothes should never be ironed, the cells will stick together and the thing can be thrown away;
  • the product must be regularly treated with water-repellent sprays;
  • to keep your clothes from dust, store them in special fabric or plastic bags in a straightened state.

When wearing membrane clothing, there are some tricks as well.

For example, under a jacket or overalls, you need to wear thermal underwear and a jumper made of special materials (Outlast, Polartec, Windbloc).

If you wear a woolen sweater or a jersey T-shirt, then with intense exertion, the body will sweat. The membrane will not be able to remove excess moisture.

Membrane clothing, when worn correctly, is very comfortable, it is lightweight, which is very important for babies who need to move quickly. This is impossible in heavy wadded and thick padded polyester jackets and overalls. The membrane will not let it get wet in the rain, while it will "breathe", the fumes will come out. You should not be afraid of a strong wind either, the membrane is not blown out, when the wind blows, the cells close and you feel warm and comfortable.

Of course, things made from a membrane are not cheap, but with proper care they will serve you for many years.
